Fatty alkyl dimethyl tertiary amines are insoluble in water but soluble in alcohols. They are intermediates in the preparation of cationic, amphoteric, and nonionic surfactants. They are also used as pigment stabilizers, paint enhancers, soil stabilizers, and intermediates in organic synthesis.
