Dialkyl quaternary ammonium salts are almost insoluble in water but soluble in non-polar solvents. At room temperature, they are colorless or pale yellow liquids or pastes and exhibit good chemical stability. It is widely used as an antistatic agent, fabric softener, bactericide and disinfectant, asphalt emulsifier, leveling agent for acrylic fibers, organic soil modifier, hair conditioning agent, and dye additive, among other applications.
