This product has a weakly irritating ammonia odor, is insoluble in water, and is readily soluble in chloroform, ethanol, ether, and benzene. It is basic and reacts with acids to form the corresponding amine salts. Primary amines are important intermediates for cationic, amphoteric, and nonionic surfactants. They are widely used in mineral flotation agents, fiber waterproofing and softening agents, dyeing auxiliaries, antistatic agents, textile auxiliaries, pigment dispersants, corrosion inhibitors, anti-caking agents for fertilizers, lubricating oil additives, bactericides, disinfectants, and chemical intermediates.
