Solubility
It is hygroscopic, soluble in water, methanol and ethanol, and slightly soluble in ether.
Application
· Alkyl betaines are compatible with various types of dyes, surfactants, and cosmetic raw materials. They are stable to sodium hypochlorite, exhibit excellent stability under both acidic and alkaline conditions, and show good formulation compatibility. Prolonged heating above 100 °C is not recommended. The products exhibit low skin irritation, good biodegradability, and provide detergency, antimicrobial activity, softness, antistatic performance, hard-water resistance, and corrosion inhibition.
· Used as foaming agents and conditioning surfactants in personal care formulations, including shampoos, foam baths, sensitive-skin products, and children's cleansing formulations. Due to good hard-water tolerance, they are suitable for hard-water detergent formulations.
· Used as biocides, effective against a broad spectrum of microorganisms, including Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Also applied as fiber and fabric softeners, antistatic agents, calcium soap dispersants, and as active components in disinfectant and antimicrobial detergents.
· Applied as gel emulsifiers in the rubber industry, felting agents for rabbit and wool fibers, firefighting foam agents, and as synergists for glyphosate formulations. Additionally used in the manufacture of dyeing auxiliaries, corrosion inhibitors, and metal surface treatment additives.
