Liposome preparation is prepared from egg lecithin and cholesterol. Because of its chemical structure, lecithin has an affinity for natural materials such as fiber. Polyquaternium-16 was used as a cationic polymer to coat the vesicles and increase the binding of liposomes to fibers.
The results of particle size, PDI and zeta potential show that due to the high molecular weight of polyquaternium-16, the particle size can be increased from nanometer to micron by coating vesicles with cationic polymer. The zeta potential reflects the physical stability of the colloidal system. The zeta potential of allantoin-loaded liposomes can be increased by coating, thus providing a more stable preparation. Because the functional groups of phospholipids used in liposome preparation are negative, the zeta potential is usually negative but close to neutral. The cationic coating of liposomes makes the negative zeta positive, as expected. The results are shown in the table.
